Hi, landlord has to show ownership proof that he or she is a rightful owner before a cheque is to be handed to him or her, the same goes with the signing of the Tenancy Agreement.

Like what Aaron Chong has indicated, before you even enter into tenancy agreement stage, you will need to ensure that your good faith deposit is being paid to the rightful owner or Power of Attorney for their considerations. It is okay not to know the contact number of landlord as landlord may not want to deal directly with tenants, but the minimum requirement is to know the identity. Your last option now could be spending a further $5.25 to purchase the property ownership information via www.inlis.gov.sg.
