I'm having a HDB together with my sister under sibling scheme, both of us are SPR.
My sister just got married and planning to convert to Singapore citizenship.
Her hubby is Singaporean and own a HDB flat by his own and fully paid.
Is it a must for us to sell our HDB flat after she married?
Should we sell our HDB first ? Or she proceed to apply for Singapore citizenship first?

Good afternoon,

Usually HDB will require spouse's name to be included into one of the HDBs they own and sell the other HDB.

No issue for you to be included in your spouse's HDB but if your name is removed, your sister wont be able to own the HDB as a single SPR.

Does your brother in law owns a HDB as well? If not, SPR or SC?
Hope my sharing helps in aiding in your enquiry. May I know how can I value add further in your property needs?

Best regards,

Hi,

1) Under the current HDB policy, a single SPR cannot keep an HDB flat.
2) After married, the spouse's name has to insert into the HDB flat they are staying in.

3) There are 2 consequences of your situation:
(a) You cannot be the sole owner of your current HDB flat.
(b) Your sister cannot be an occupier or owner of her hubby's flat because she owned an HDB flat.

4) I suggest you appeal to HDB to keep the current flat because you were under the old system.
5) If HDB allowed you to keep it, you will have to buy over your sister's share of ownership.
6) Application for SC has nothing to do with your current situation.
7) If your brother-in-law bought his current flat with the single grant, once he includes your sister as the owner he is also eligible for a top-up grant of $25k.

8) I suggest you submit your appeal via this link:

Hope the above answer your main concerns, but if there are more query, please feel free to contact me at 90110636  , or email: ling.ck7@gmail.com if more information is needed.
I'll be glad to assist.

Hi,

In this situation, your Sister and her Husband will have to sell of either one of the flats, as they cannot own 2 HDB flats.

It is a not a must that she sells her HDB flat, because her husband can sell his HDB flat. They are given a choice of which flat to sell.

I am experienced and well-versed in both HDB and private transactions. I will be able to assist you in your property plans. Please get in touch with me for a more in-depth discussion.

Should you need require further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market.
