I currently co-owned a hdb flat with my mum and in 2 year's time, me and my wife will get our BTO flat so will need to sell our current house by then. But as my wife and mum doesn't get along well so we have an intention to sell away the house earlier but not sure what are the options available after getting the proceeds (Appr. $120K cash). Should we rent a unit from HDB or condo or other options?

Hi Toh,

Put it simply down to $$ terms. A 3rm HDB flat with 2 bedrooms can set you back by $2000 range a month therefore 2years would be a whopping $48k on rental without any recovery. I am pretty sure you are weighing the options of not knowing if the price for selling your current unit in 2 years time will be sustainable since there are ongoing news that price maybe corrected. Honestly, no one can confirm on this now.

Given the strained relationships between your mum and wife, you need to weigh out on how the sale of the HDB help in mending the relationship between the 2 of them as I strongly understand that being sandwiched between the 2 is not easy. I do not wish to go into details of your family relationships as an outsider but I believe you are capable of making a sound decision, therefore if you need more information or assistance in making your decision, feel free to contact me further and let me know how I may assist.
