About Landon

Besides my passion as a real estate agent, I am an enthusiast in subjects like Ba Zi and Feng Shui. I feel that it is imperative for us to integrate it into our homes and workplaces. Feng Shui is a direct reflection of the environment and personal space we live and work in.

Here are 7 basic tips which we can apply at home and office ;

(Get rid of all clutter)
Clearing all clutter is perhaps the first thing you should do when implementing a efficient Feng Shui method. Clutter inhibits energy flow; items like bags of old clothes, stacks of files, dirty dishes, ambiguous gadgets and items which are lying around, or anything that does not serve an effective purpose should be discarded or stored. Clearing clutter can be incredibly therapeutic, and the benefits of being more organised often leads to increased productivity and a sense of clarity. Do not hesitate to throw away old items. A great way to begin getting rid of clutter is to gather all the clothes you are never going to wear again and donate it to the nearest Salvation Army.

(Buy some plants)
Plants are a wonderful Feng Shui tool symbolising life and our natural environment, having said that, you should not have too many plants in your home too. In Feng Shui, corners of rooms are areas where the flow of energy tends to get trapped and plants can be an effective circulator of energy in these lower energy spots. Plants are also beneficial near dense electrical equipment like computers, TVs and WiFi routers, as they absorb radiation and reverse the electromagnetic fields that can stop the flow of energy. A healthy plant can have great benefits for you, but a dying or dead plant represents decreasing power and vitality, thus make sure to keep your plants healthy and hydrated.

(Let the sunshine in)
Nothing has more positive energy than the Sun, which is an integral part of effective Feng Shui for housing. Lighting your home with natural sunlight, as opposed to using electricity, can have a dramatic effect on your mood and disposition. In Feng Shui, the Sun is symbolic of health, productivity, and motivation(a.k.a Yang Qi). I do believe that the 'Yang Qi' eradicates negative energies in the house. If you have the opportunity, let this natural resource shine into your home or office. Many people detest the heat/sunrays from West direction facing homes and offices, but this does not demean the positive effects it has when you let the rays in. When you wake up in the morning, open all blinds and shades and keep them open throughout the day. We have become so reliant on electrical lighting that we often overlook this universal source, which provides us warmth and energy unconditionally.

(Use water, my friend)
Flowing water is a huge component of Feng Shui. Other than the toilet, having some kind of running water in your home or office can be extremely beneficial to the flow of energy and creativity, especially in the area of finance. Contemplate buying a small water feature fountain, and put it in your favourable sector which enhances wealth. Fish tanks are equally effective as not only do you get running water, and also additional life in that space with fishes. The Feng Shui "9 sectors" is the principle that each sector of your home represents a certain trait which could influence your life. For example, IF the North-West sector of your house represents finance and wealth, then implementing a fixture of water flow (like a fountain) in this area can be a useful step towards activating/enhancing your financial well-being.

(Colour my world)
The colours in your home and office elicit a certain feel, or energy, and it is important to put some awareness in your colour choices. Red symbolises action, confidence and courage. Blue symbolises spirituality, truth and peace. Green symbolises life, nature and well-being. Yellow symbolises wisdom, joy and intellectual energy. Have you ever stopped to look at the colours in your home and office, and thought about what they signify? Using colours to decorate different rooms can really add substance to a home or office, and it is a good Feng Shui practice to use colour schemes that tie-in with your core values.

(Positive imagery)
I believe having too many depressing figures in your home can have a negative effect on your outlook in life. Look around your house and be aware of your decorations and artwork, honestly judge if the images are positive or negative. For example, if you have a painting depicting a sullen figure of sorts, or a portrait of a dark sky with lightning, you will start to see some parallels in your life with this kind of imagery. Put up more uplifting portraits of trees, bright skies and waterfalls etc.; something that makes you feel good, and the parallels will begin to shift. Fill your home and office with happy, energetic and inspiring pieces and see where that leads you.

(Close toilet seat & shut the door)
Water is a huge part of Feng Shui, and the benefits of having water flow in your life can be very positive. As for the toilet, it holds a different concept; it is a draining mechanism that takes energy away from the core of the home. The symbolic flushing of water down a drain can have damaging effects on personal finances, and it is therefore recommended to keep the toilet seat down and covered. Furthermore, Feng Shui concepts states that it is important to physically segregate the bathrooms from the rest of house; meaning keep the doors shut when not in use. The multiple drains in bathrooms are meant to wash away dirt and other waste material, and we do not want all the good things in our lives going down the tubes as well.

(Conclusion)
The principles of Feng Shui reveals that subtle alterations in our home and office environment can have deep and meaningful impact on almost every situation in our lives. If cultivated the right way, Feng Shui can be a positive force in everything from your finances and career to your health and relationships.

Yours earnestly,
Landon Chian
