Asked by
I wish to write in to HDB to appeal and sell my flat before MOP. The main reason for the appeal is so that I can buy a bigger house to accommodate my elderly parents and take care of them. Currently, they are staying with my brother who plans to have children soon.
There won't be enough space/rooms as we will also likely be hiring a caretaker in the future to look after them. How should I approach about writing a convincing letter? Is there any templates or samples I can refer to? Can anyone help?

Hi, your situation sounds very understandable, and HDB does consider appeals on compassionate grounds like caring for elderly parents.

When writing your appeal letter, focus on these key points:
• Clearly state your request to sell before MOP and the reasons why, highlighting the need to provide suitable accommodation and care for your elderly parents.
• Explain why your current housing arrangement isn’t sustainable, including your brother’s growing family and plans to hire a caretaker.
• Provide any supporting details or documents, such as medical reports or letters from healthcare professionals, if applicable.
• Keep the tone respectful, concise, and factual.

While HDB doesn’t usually provide official templates, a simple structure like an introduction, explanation of circumstances, and a polite request usually works best.

If you want, I can help you draft a letter tailored to your case. Feel free to reach out — I’m Aren from PropNex, reachable at 9657 6701  . Happy to assist. Read More
