I took up a 1 year fixed term lease of an apartment at Singapore last year. 6 months into my lease, I gave my landlord a notice to leave the apartment in 3 months' time due to a personal situation. So a total of 9 months later, I left the apartment.
The landlord has forfeited the security deposit and is now asking me to pay up the balance rent. I have no diplomatic clause or any clause protecting my rights in the tenancy agreement. But I have been a good tenant throughout and the landlord just wants the rent amount for the remaining 2 months.
My question is - can I avoid making any further payments than what I already have in the form of security deposit considering that I did give a 3 month notice beforehand?
What does the Singapore Law have to say regarding such a situation?
Can this work out in my favour in any way at all??
