I have brought a HDB Flat in Year 2006, year 2009 I have rent out the whole unit and stay in my private property.

Understand that if we stay in HDB after 5 years we are entitle to buy private property.

For my case, can I count that I have stay in HDB Flat for 5 years since I have rent out the whole unit after 3 years.

If my case is consider as 5 years then if I sold my present private property can I still buy a private property and keep the HDB Flat as well.

Specialist please advise on my case.

Hi YH,

If your flat was bought direct from HDB or from the open market?
If from open market, did you get any grant?
If the answer to both is yes, then the MOP is 5 years.
If not, the MOP will be either 1 year or 2.5 years.

Furthermore, your flat was approved by HDB to rent the whole unit out, which showed that you had fulfilled the MOP.

Since you have fulfilled the MOP, after you sell your present pte property, you are still able to buy another one.

Hi Y H,

The general rule of thumb for HDB owners buying private property would be to have fulfilled the minimum occupation period. If the rental of you HDB unit has been approved by the HDB not on any special grounds, you should have already fulfilled the minimum occupation period, thus, eligible to purchase a new private property. Dear YH,

As long as your HDB MOP is met, you can buy and / or sell off private property and at the same time keep onto the current HDB unit.
