I approached an agent from ERA Realty Network Pte Ltd on Property Guru to view Aspen Heights as i was interested in renting a room. He recommened me to view Tiara on 19/2 at 430pm with a monthly rent of $1150. When I asked him for the tenant profile, he mentioned Korean/Japanese/Malaysian. When I went for the viewing, I met the landlord. She brought me to 2 levels to view the rooms. I mentioned that i wasnt keen in the room and she told me that she could let me have the bigger room at just $100 higher i.e. $1250 per month. That day, I paid a security deposit of $1000. And agreed to sign a 3 months lease. When I moved in, to my horror, this was what I actually received -
1. I was given a completely different room as promised, the aircon was not working, dust all over the room that even after bathing, there were scoot and dirt on my face. I could feel the heat and dust, could not sleep the entire night and felt breathless and slightly asthmatic from the dust.
2. the tenant profile was completely different from what I was told. The entire level was Indian male, and i felt that my safety was compromised as I needed to share a tiny bathroom with lock issues with at least 2 Indian men. I did not see any female in the unit or other profiles.
I texted the landlord to refund the security deposit, but she refused to and demanded I pay the remaining rents. Could you please assist with this scam? The property agent was nowhere in sight since the whatsapp, I have not seen him physically and he even demanded agent fees after i signed the lease yesterday.
How can i resolve this? Is this a scam? And get my security deposit back?
