As one of the latest batch of towns to be revamped under the Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) programme, Woodlands will get a facelift to make it the “Star Destination of the North”, revealed National Development Minister Lawrence Wong at the launch of the ROH exhibition for Woodlands on Sunday (16 April).
Six “star attractions” will be introduced within the estate, said the Housing and Development Board (HDB).
For instance, the Woodlands Regional Centre comprising Woodlands Central and Woodlands North Coast will be transformed into a “more vibrant hub of activity, with better connectivity and new commercial and residential developments”.
In fact, a landmark residential development will be built in Woodlands Central, while another residential development offering a “housing-in-the-woods” experience will rise in Woodlands North Coast.
Aside from housing developments, the Woodlands waterfront will also be transformed into a new rustic park and a nature promenade.
A new scenic WoodsVista Gallery will be developed to connect Woodlands Central to the Woodlands waterfront. The 1.9km community link will feature dedicated cycling and pedestrian paths, enabling residents to walk, cycle or jog from Woodlands MRT station to the waterfront.
Meanwhile, the Woodlands Town Garden in Marsiling will be upgraded and expanded into a new “discovery playground”. To be renamed Marsiling Park when completed, the playground will feature a boardwalk, heritage corner, children’s playground and a learning lane.
At the same time, a new integrated healthcare complex will be developed next to the upcoming Woodlands South MRT station on the Thomson-East Coast Line, noted the HDB.
A new “community nexus” located right next to the Admiralty MRT station will also offer a range of facilities such as eldercare and childcare centres, a medical centre, dining and retail outlets, a hawker centre and housing for the elderly.
Finally, the “existing park connector that runs from the east to the west of Woodlands will be transformed into a ‘social corridor’, with lush greenery, community gardens and 3-Generation facilities along the park connector and MRT viaduct”, said the HDB.
The existing neighbourhoods in Woodlands will also be enhanced, while the “existing neighbourhood centres and parks within the town will be refreshed with enhanced landscaping and upgraded facilities”, added the HDB.
