My family rented an HDB apartment in 2014 for 1 year. We renewed our TA in 2015 for 1 more year. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, we have to cut our current lease term short by few months and travel back to our home country.
Since we found out about it quite early, we gave our landlord 3 months notice to look for another tenant. We couldn't find anyone to take over our current agreement.
It has now been 2+ months since we gave the notice. Our landlord is avoiding our emails (we have no other means of communicating with him as he does not share his phone number or other contact info) and his agent has not been actively showing the apartment either.
Our concern is that if the landlord does not find a new tenant within this last month, is he entitled to retain our deposit of one month despite the notice period we gave?
Also, is the landlord entitled to recover rent amount for each remaining month of our lease term (i.e. months by which we are cutting the lease term short)?
