Hi, I will be trying to rent a place for myself to stay. The property agent whom I am speaking to (renter's agent) told me to pay agent's commission. I have a friend who has had experience in renting told me this is not standard practice. Can somebody advise me? Thanks!

Morning Shaun,

Check the CEA Act and ask that agent if he understand what is stated within the act. Alternatively, you can opt to report this salesperson to the CEA.

It is a serious offence for an agent to collect commission from both sides (landlord and tenant). Cheers!
