Hi, I am a landlord and I have a question regarding extension of rental period and here are the facts:
1. Tenant has been staying at my condo apartment since Sep 2021
2. Original rental period is Sep 2021 to Aug 2022
3. Tenant has recently approached me in May 2022 saying that they want to extend the rental period by 2 months, till Oct 2022
4. I am ok to allow the extension by 2 months

Questions:
1. Is this 2 month extension treated as a renewal of tenancy agreement, or merely an extension of existing agreement?
2. If its a extension, is there a need to do up a formal tenancy agreement?
3. Does this need to be lodged to URA/IRAS for stamp duty and property tax assessment?
4. How is this usually done in practice?

Hi,

I would be most glad to assist you further and please feel free to let me know if you need any assistance. Have a good day ahead. By the way, most landlord agents would treat that extra 1 to 2 months as only an extension and not a renewal. And no action to be taken by the landlord at all.
