App to zap maintenance issues

A new app has been launched that allows residents in 12 town councils to report defects and maintenance issues using their smartphones.

“The key thinking is to provide an additional communication tool for residents with smartphones,” said Dr Teo Ho Pin, Coordinating Chairman of the PAP Town Councils.

For instance, residents can take photos of a dirty common corridor or broken railing and submit it to the authorities using the app – called iTown@SG – which is integrated with mapping data from the Singapore Land Authority.  Together with a smartphone’s Global Positioning System (GPS), the app spots the exact location of the fault, even if an address is not provided.

Moreover, the app can also automatically capture fault reports, due to its built-in Integrated Estates Management System (IEMS), the estate management system at PAP Town Councils.

Thereafter, the IEMS will alert service contractors for problem resolution. Based on current protocol, dirty corridors will be attended to within a day while lift breakdown within 25 minutes.

The IEMS will be updated once the fault is resolved, and the resident will be notified of the progress through the app.

The app is available for both Android and Apple iOS platforms, and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.
