Health & Fitness
Globalization and rampant modernization has brought many benefits to our shores but it has also exponentially increased the levels of stress a single person is designed to tolerate. As such, Singaporeans look toward alternate avenues of recreation to destress.
Choa Chu Kang is rife with many of these things and none more so than health & fitness outlets. Staying healthy and fit in such unforgiving times is almost a necessity. Fortunately for residents here, they have the Choa Chu Kang Stadium, a multi-sport facility with its own ActiveSG gym for weary blue-collared workers to increase internal production of chemicals like serotonin, endorphins and dopamine to not just fuel the body but keep the mind healthy and sane. There are also eateries at the stadium, although it’s unadvisable to indulge in KFC and/or Pizza Hut after a workout.
There are various other gyms in the district including 24-hour gym, Anytime Fitness situated at 190 Choa Chu Kang Ave 1, Choa Chu Kang North and in the vicinity of Keat Hong LRT station. There is also a Gymboxx at 2 Choa Chu Kang Loop, Keat Hong CC, about five minutes from Choa Chu Kang MRT station.
In 2022, SAFRA Choa Chu Kang will open, in Choa Chu Kang Park. Billed as a fitness oasis, it’ll be yet another, massive beacon for residents to visit to swim, hit the gym, run or indulge in light activities with their kids. Choa Chu Kang Park on its own is already excellent to spend a day picnicking, running or brisk walking through its paths while allowing the greenery to reset your mind.
Recreation
Even in the digital age, a library is an important thing. The Choa Chu Kang library situated on the 4th floor of Lot One Shopper’s Mall is justifies this with on average, 1.3 million book loans a year. A fantastic and quiet place to escape the constant and noisy disruptions, it’s a great place for students to study in or anyone, really, to catch up on a good book while in between Game of Thrones episodes.
There is more than one mall and therefore, a glut of amenities in Choa Chu Kang. Restaurants, retail outlets, tuition centres, grocery stores and Shaw, the main Choa Chu Kang cinema where you’re going to be re-watching The Avengers: Endgame for the umpteenth time.
Other smaller, but notable malls in the district include Yew Tee Point and Sunshine Place. These neighborhood malls offer residents convenience in purchasing everyday goods.
