For Alan, it is more than just closing deals with clients, but the possibility of being a leader and growing your wealth. Alan was a graduate of Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a diploma in Real Estate Management. During an attachment program by the school, he was attached by the school to a property management company as a property executive to experience working in the field. It was there that he learned about the prospects of marketing Real Estate. After his attachment, he was offered the same position in the property management company post-graduation as a form of recognition. However he turned down the offer. A young graduate filled with vigor, he felt that he could venture out to a career that has more to offer. With that, Alan took the initiative to attend a recruitment seminar held under ERA, which he got to know about through an ERA Agent in the course of his attachment programme. Without further hesitation, he had set his mind to mark out a promising future for himself as a Property Agent When asked about his initial start off as a property agent, Alan described his 1st six months - with the guidance of colleagues, he started out doing door knocking at the East area. Throughout these six months, distance was a concern for him as he resides in the west, without any form of private transport he had to travel long distance to the East. It was then he decided to start out to venture at the west area on his own. Within 3 months of constant hard work and perseverance, he began to see results and closed five deals within a short span of time. His career kicked off to a further height when in year 2004, he received his first referral case for a condominium unit. This was the breakthrough for him to enter the private residential sector. From then on, his shifted his focus to the private residential sector in which he saw more potential. In all honesty, monetary satisfaction is one of the motivations that keep him going. He mentioned, whenever he closes a deal for his clients, the possible wealth creation that is evident motivates him to start investing. Every successful investment is the key to growing wealth. He has achieved recognition by the company; being awarded multiple times. Since year 2002, Alan has been topping the charts for the ERA Top 50 Achievers Award. With his outstanding performance, Alan was also recognized to be one of the ERA Asia Pacific Elite Winners in year 2004 and was also awarded as the 1st runner-up ERA Top Manager. The following year, he won the prestigious ERA Top Manager Award. As an enthusiast, Alan was also a member of ERA Gold Club in 2004 and Platinum Club in 2005. His current future plans for himself are to buy more properties and immerse in high investments. For Alan, there wasn’t anyone in particular that provided him mentorship or guidance on being a team leader. When he became a leader, he shared with his downline all the experience he gained throughout his 13 years and counting. Through this his downline learnt how to avoid the tough situations he faced, and how to repeat the good ones that he encountered. He provides direct guidance to his downline by advising them with précised directions they could take. Alan also mentioned that in this career, only the sky is the limit. If you aim high, there’s always a step higher that you can reach out to. There is an abundance of opportunites to make it big and to succeed as long as you do it right. Advice to those aspiring to be a property agent themselves from Alan: Allow yourself to take the step out and venture into the industry. The Corporate world is different as compared to the Real Estate industry. You may be able to earn your first bucket of gold just by closing one deal which could be well over what salary holders earn in the corporate world. It is win big or go home. Advice to those trying to lead a team of agents: The most important thing to consider is your level of experience. Without an adequate amount of experience, it will be difficult to lead a team as you’ll be unable to provide your downline with the necessary guidance and solutions to their problems. You are only ready when you have both Confidence and Experience. Alan also sees this as another opportunity for property agents to consider as a source of passive income. Alan: I gain my satisfaction and achievement from seeing how the knowledge and advice I shared with my group of agent investors have benefited them through their jobs and investments. Read more
