The Istana is an iconic landmark located within steps from downtown Orchard Road, showcasing the colonial architecture predominantly seen in the Mid-19^th Century - where the vintage sophistication of the classical Palladian style blends with touches of Anglo-Indian and tropical Malay elements.

Designed to impress, the Istana has played host to foreign dignitaries and Heads of States, not to mention members of the public on specific national holidays, who love to be entertained and take in the breath-taking, unobstructed views of the Central Business District (CBD) in the distance.

• The majestic building is constructed to be symmetrically balanced and well-proportioned, with a central tower between colonnaded wings. Reflective of the Malay heritage in the country, the architectural floor plan layout follows that of a traditional Malay dwelling, with signature features of a Malay house subtly incorporated.
• This grand three-story presidential home has six function rooms used exclusively for ceremonial and entertainment purposes, each fully decorated with an understated elegance. Furnishings such as mohagony Louis XVI chairs, silk and wool Fine Naein Persian carpet in beige and blue, rosewood tables and candelabra type chandeliers in the Maria Theresa style add a touch of luxury to accentuate the grandeur within the residence.
• The President’s lounge, occupying a sizable area on the top floor, overlooks the ceremonial plaza and front lawn. Though access is highly restricted, it is said to be characteristically ornate with timber floorboards covered by a wool and silk woven Persian rug and Rosewood furniture lacquered black and inlaid with mother-of-pearl.

Facilities at The Istana

• Within the grounds are three main buildings – Sri Temasek, Istana Villa and the Lodge. The former colonial secretary's residence, and now the official residence of the Prime Minister of Singapore, Sri Temasek exudes an old world charm overlooking the compound.
• In the event that statesmen or other notable guests choose to stay the night, the Istana Villa provides an idyllic setting for a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle associated with official duties, negotiations and/or affairs
• The Istana is set amidst the lush backdrop with a variety of flora including Yellow Flame, Kapok and Saraca trees, palms, clove and nutmeg trees to name a few, making the gardens one of the most beautiful in Singapore. Comes complete with a dedicated team of curators and gardeners from National Park responsible for maintaining the grounds.
• For golfing enthusiasts, the palace offers a nine-hole course within walking distance, while for those who are more laidback can consider exploring the expansive gardens to discover interesting relics of the past such as a marble statue of Queen Victoria and a Japanese cannon captured during WWII.
