My parents is going through divorce now n need to sell of the flat. I am thinking of buying over so that my mum can continue stay but the issues is my own flat MOP is only due in 2022 sep. Like to seek advise if I can appeal to HDB to sell my place or what other options for such situations. In the event I manage to get the appeal approval can I still buy a EC after that?

Hi,

It is possible to appeal, but supposed they allow you to take over your dad's share, you are required to sell off your current HDB as well. And it is likely a fresh MOP of 5 years would need to be observed, which means you can't purchase the EC or private property.

Dear Sir/Mdm,

Appealing to sell your current flat and buying over her flat is one option. Your mum can also take over the flat from your dad if it is financially feasible.

As for EC, if you buy over your parents flat, you will only be eligible to buy a new EC after satisfying the 5 years of Minimum Occupation Period.

I'm sorry to hear about your family's situation.

It is possible for you to appeal to HDB for early waiver of MOP to sell your current flat, and then to buy over your parent's flat so that your Mother can continue to stay there.

Do take note that upon the purchase, you will need to fulfill the 5-year MOP before being able to purchase another residential property, be it a EC, another HDB or a private condo.
