Asked by
I would like to renew by tenancy contract in my existing unit. Can I engage a new agent as I am not happy with my existing agent? I am worried if I will have any legal problems since I have signed a document with the agent stating I will use her service for the renewal after tenancy contract registration.

Hi Pakku

You are free to change agent and will not be implicated into any legal issue.

Pls feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

Afternoon Pakku,

Under CEA ruling, clients have rights to change their representing agent. All they need to do is to provide the current agent and/or their agency with written or verbal notice and it's almost effective immediately.

Thank you for your response. I would like to inform that the document I have signed is "Estate Agency Agreement for the lease for residential property by a tenant" from CEA, Singapore.

Point 4,d says - I will have to pay the agent fee if I renew the tenancy. Please advise.

Hello Pakku!

No worries, you can simply notify your agent and his agency that you are not keen to take up his service for the renewal.

Hope it helps!

Cheers!
