I purchased a 5 room HDB flat at Jurong West St 81 on 6 May 2011. I understand my MOP is 5 yrs from date of purchase. However, i would like to move to somewhere nearer to my daughter in the east side of Singapore. I am intending to rent out my rooms and rent another property in the east. May i know if this is workable? Anyone out there have a better solution to my situation?

Afternoon Ms. Ayu Dean,

Since you have not fulfilled MOP requirement, HDB will not grant you approval to rent out your whole unit. Furthermore, you are required to stay within the unit for the MOP clock to continue it's countdown.

Good day to you Ms Ayu Dean,

I understand that you are planning to move to a place which is closer to your daughter.

However, since you have not fulfilled MOP, HDB will only allow you to sublet bedrooms but not the whole flat.

    Yes i am intending to just sublet my rooms as i understand i cant rent out the whole unit. But the issue is, can i rent another property (private property) and return back to my flat as and when needed as i am still keeping a room?

Thank you for your response.

In regards to your second query, HDB will not allow that. Within the 5 year MOP period, the owner has to be in physical occupation of the flat at all times and not only sometimes.
