I intend to buy a resale EC from my friend who had lived in the unit for 5 years (Prive EC). If I buy his unit, do I need to wait for another 5 years before I can sell the unit? Or can I sell the EC without waiting for 5 more years?

You will need to pay seller's stamp duty if you sell within the first 3 years.

Hi,

There is no requirement for you to hold the resale EC for any period, as it is considered a private property once the first owners have met their 5-year MOP.

However, do take note that should you choose to dispose off the property within 3 years, you will be liable for Seller Stamp Duty of up to 12%.

you wont have to fulfill MOP again as per a resale hdb if you opt to buy your friend's resale EC.

And even having say that, do take note that seller's stamp duty will be payable if you sell within 3 years from exercise date.
