I have been renting a private apartment unit for almost 4 years now (2 years and 1 year consecutive extension thereafter). As my new place is almost ready, I informed my landlord that I intend to terminate my lease early by 3 months (I gave 1.5 months early notice). My landlord wants me to forfeit my 2 months security deposit as compensation....is that as per the industry norm? Since I am on annual extension, shouldn't be the forfeit be limited to 1 month?
