I am listed as an occupier in my partner’s private apartment (the apartment under their name), am I allowed to purchase HDB when I am 35 and above?

And will my partner be allowed to be listed as an occupier upon the purchase of my HDB if we do not intend to sell the private apartment?

Hi,
As long as you are not one of the registered owners of a private apartment in Sg or overseas, you can apply to purchase a HDB flat, when you turn 35. You need not register your partner as an occupier as you are buying as a single over 35.

In the event that you decide to marry within the 5yr MOP, your partner needs to sell the private apartment.

Dear sir/mdm,

I am of the impression that there is no need to be listed as occupier for private properties, unless of security consideration when you enter and exit the premises.

As such you will still be eligible to purchase a HDB on your own when you turn 35 as a single. There is no need to add your partner in as an occupier, however if you do get married prior to you turning 35, you will be ineligible to purchase the HDB since your spouse will be required to be an essential occupier for the purchase as a married couple, thus the ownership of the private property of your partner disqualifies you from making the purchase.

Hi,

Do you mean you are registered as an official occupant for the condo and this is registered with the managing agent of the condo? If so, it is just for record purposes, and does not really affect your purchase since you own zero residential property in Singapore. When you turn 35 years old, you can purchase resale HDB under your own single name if you are single singaporean citizen. You do not have to add his name as occupant since the HDB is solely owned by you, and both of you are unmarried.

As you're currently an occupier rather than the owner of the private property, once you turn 35, you'll be eligible to purchase a resale HDB under your own name without needing to list your partner as an occupier.
