Hi, if I were to purchase a condo with a friend (as tenants in common) for investment purpose, how does the mortgage work? Assuming a 50-50 ownership, will both parties become loan-bearers and contribute equally to the monthly repayments?

Dear Sir/Mdm,

Both parties can become the loan bearers if both of your incomes are taken during the loan assessment process. Both of your will be able to use your CPF too as both are the owners.

As for the monthly repayment, both of you can mutually agree on the breakdown each party will need to bear. 50-50 will be ideal if it is a shared property.

Borrowers have to be owners in order to be eligible for mortgage.

You need not have to be 50% 50% to contribute mortgage equally. You guys can be 99% 1% and the mortgage payment can still be 50% 50%.
