Yes, it is advisable to engage the same agent to handle your sale and purchase. The way I look at it, it's all pros and I couldn't think of any con in doing so.

By engaging the same agent, he will be able to manage your Timeline properly, so as to ensure a smooth transition for you to move to your new place. I suppose you do not wish to shift house more than once, right?

Apart from Timeline planning, he can also assist on your sale and purchase prices, as well as give advice on Financial planning for the flow of funds, i.e ensure sales proceeds and CPF Refund to be in time to cover for next purchase etc.

Having said that, it is also very important for you to engage a proficient agent who have the knowledge and experience in handling such transactions on a regular basis. Not all agents are proficient in HDB rules and procedures, and it would be disastrous if the agent could not handle it in a good manner.

The same agent can assist to plan on your finances for your future housing plan and advise you on the best financing options. You would not want a situation whereby you engaged an agent just for the purpose of selling but later on discovered that you could not afford to purchase a house that you planned for. As agents, our job is not just to assist on selling or buying but ensure proper financial planning is made to ensure you can transition to your next house smoothly. Moreover timeline wise, if you do not have any temporary place of stay during the transition period, it is very crucial for you to engaged an agent that is very specialised in HDB transactions.
