As you are SC and the purchase will be your matrimonial home, ABSD will not be payable.

Hi Bryan,

As a Singaporean, if you purchase the property with your wife who is a foreigner, you WILL NOT be liable to pay the Additional Buyer Stamp Duty of 15% as it will be considered as your matrimonial property.

It is a good time to start looking now as prices have come down and developers are giving discounts for the new developments.

My advice to you would be to purchase the condo after you are married. This way, you can save on the 15% ABSD, as you will be purchasing it as your first matrimonial home.

I also think it is wise of you to start looking into purchasing a property in today's Buyers' market, where prices has softened a fair amount from the peak. By purchasing today, you could be in time benefit from the next property cycle.

Hey Bryan,

you guys will definitely hit by 15% ABSD if you decide to buy now because both of you are still considered unrelated parties in the eyes of law.

Perhaps you can consider to purchase one under your name first and add her name into the property after your marriage.

If not, you will have to get married now in order to enjoy tax savings.
