Hi Guru,
Four year ago, our family bought a resale HDB under my wife's name as a owner who is a SC and I am a SPR as a occupant.
We are planning to buy a condo next year after the 5 years MOP. What is the best way to avoid paying the ABSD? If I am now converting to SC and buy the condo under my name as owner. Do I need to pay the ABSD in the view that I am only the occupant of the HDB?

Hi,

If you are occupant for the HDB, it will be considered 1st property purchase, however you can only buy after 5 years MOP met. Once you are SC, ABSD is not applicable.

Afternoon Jimmy,

As you are only the essential occupier in the HDB unit that your wife have bought, you will not be liable for ABSD should you convert to citizen before you made the purchase.

1) Met your 5-year MOP period
2) Convert to Singapore Citizenship
