Hi all gurus,

Just want to ask a question. Currently I am married and my wife has a house co-own with her mother at the moment. But I would wish to purchase another resale under my name at the same time, will it still be possible? I understand that BTO is confirmed a No no. But does purchasing a resale flat still possible at this current situation?

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, it will not be possible even for a resale flat because a married couple has to purchase the flat together as a family nucleus.

Good morning Mike,

You are not eligible to purchase a resale HDB individually as you are married and will have to purchase with your wife.

Unless your mother in law is capable to take over your wife's share in current flat financially and able to return whatever CPF OA funds that your wife has utilised then she can free up her name to purchase with you.

Alternatively you might want to consider private segment.

Hi Mike,

In order for you to purchase a HDB flat, you will need to include your wife's name in it. Which means, she will have to take her name out from the HDB that she owns with her mother.

This is possible, if your wife can return the CPF amounts used plus accrued interest back to her CPF. Her mother will also have to have the capability to undertake the balance loan amount on the HDB flat.
