Do you mean that the property you are purchasing is ready to collect key? If yes, then you need to proceed to register your intend to sell on the HDB resale portal and start putting up the property for sale. There is no requirement to sell the flat 6 months before completion of the intended purchase of flat but rather, after collecting the key to the new flat. If you do not require the funds from this sale to finance the purchase, then you can plan out the time accordingly.

For Open Booking, its a fastest fingers first come first serve basis, so for this upcoming exercise, the priority is to secure a queue number to be able to choose.

Assuming you manage to select an unit, typically they will require a deposit on the 1st appointment date to confirm the unit selection. Thereafter during key collection (if completed property), you will need to settle the balance of the purchase price before the keys can be issued.

In your scenario, we may require some time to sell so I will assist you to defer the key collection date such that the resale completion date proceeds can come back in time before you collect keys for the next flat.

By the way, has this HDB property officially being transferred to your name?

Good morning,

Legal process for HDB sale might take up to 3.5 months to 4 months not inclusive of marketing period.

If you have the funds to purchase a HDB first, you can proceed ahead first. You just need to dispose off your existing HDB within 6 months from key collection date.

If you are buying a flat from HDB,

You, your spouse, co-applicants, and any occupiers listed in the flat will have to dispose of the existing flat within 6 months from the date of key collection to the flat.
