When a tenant wishes to renew the lease, does the tenant have the right to do so as long as both parties agree to terms? I assume the rent remains the same unless otherwise discussed and agreed to. Does landlord need to show proof that her family is moving in if that is the reason for non-renewal? Thank you!

PSParveen SekhonRepliedGlad to share that the wording of our contract obliges the landlord to renew unless we have breached tenancy terms, which we have not, or if the landlord herself wants to move in. In this case the landlord says her daughter's family will move in, not the landlord. Therefore that case is not valid. I urge renters to speak to lawyers in such cases as there is little knowledge and a lot of misconception on TAs.
