Hi Stephanie,

Unfortunately no, HDB deems both you and your spouse as a family nucleus hence both names need to be included to be eligible for the hdb resale purchase (ie. He has to sell away the private property). Alternatively, you can purchase a private property on your sole name.

Hi Stephanie,

I am not sure where did you get the answers from, but there is a little error in that answer.

A married couple (with at least a SC in the family nucleus), can own 1 HDB and 1 condo (or even multiple condos), even if both names are included in the HDB flat as owners. There are many families who had bought a second property (either for own stay or for investment) after their HDB flats had met the MOP.

In terms of your situation, if you were to purchase a resale HDB flat, your husband will need to be included in your application either as a co-owner or an essential occupier. This means that he will have to dispose off his condo latest within 6 months upon the HDB flat purchase.

Hi Stephanie,

The sequence in which a Singapore Citizen household can own both a HDB and a private condominium will be important. As what my good friend Robbie has indicated, in the event that you were to purchase a resale HDB now, the ownership for the private condominium need to be relinquished by your husband within 6 months from taking possession of the resale HDB, as under the HDB's eyes, both your husband and you are considered 1 entity and should not own any private residential property during the minimum occupation period of 5 years for the resale HDB. Once you have met the minimum occupation period of 5 years, you will be eligible to purchase a private residential property again based on the existing regulations.

I have a client who own a private condominium in Simei last year who bought a resale HDB in Simei and upon completion, they have transferred the fully paid private condominium to their daughter as the sole owner of the property. The daughter is already 21 years old of age in this case.

Hi Stephanie,

For your case, it is not possible because in order to buy a resale HDB, your husband will need to be either one of the owners or he can be an essential occupier to make up the family nucleus. Once you purchased the HDB, your husband will need to sell off the condo under his sole name within a 6 months period.

It is therefore recommended to get a condo unit instead under your sole name. Please feel free to contact me if you need any further assistance or advice.
