Singapore-based DP Architects has been chosen as the master planner for Seef Lusail, a major commercial waterfront district in Lusail City, Qatar.
DP Architects, an award winning multi-disciplinary design consultancy firm, will be in charge of drawing up plans for the 600,000 sq m waterfront promenade and transforming it into a mixed-use development, which will comprise retail, residential, hotel, recreational, entertainment and cultural attractions.
The 2.3 km waterfront precinct will be developed by the Seef Lusail Real Estate Development Company (SEEF). The firm is a joint venture (JV) between Qatari Diar, the property investment arm of the Qatar government, and Masraf Al Rayah, the country’s fourth largest bank by market value.
Khalid Ahmad Fakhroo, Executive Director of Engineering and Real Estate at Masraf Al Rayah and Chief Executive Officer of SEEF, revealed that the decision to appoint DP Architects was made following extensive research and market studies in order to obtain an iconic and sustainable development design that is in line with the 2030 Vision of Qatar.
“When completed, Seef Lusail will join other celebrated international developments as one of the top waterfront destinations in the world,” said Ti Lian Seng, Director at DP Architects.
The development will not be the maiden foray of the consultancy in the Middle East. Since 2005, it has been operating in the region and has designed key projects such as Address at Dubai Marina, Dubai Mall, Dilmunia Health City in Bahrain, Eighth Gate in Damascus and Doha Festival City.
It has also made its mark on the Singapore cityscape with developments such as Suntec City, Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore Sports Hub and Esplanade —Theatres on the Bay.
