Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, MP for the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, made the announcement to residents during a conference with the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
“We need to get the line done, we need to get it done as quickly as possible to minimise the disturbance and disruption to all of you, and we need to make it as safe as possible,” he said.
Dr Balakrishnan explained that he had discussed the problem with the Cabinet and agreed that LTA's plan has addressed the safety concerns of the residents.
However, around 100 Maplewoods residents are still unhappy about the resolution.
LTA officials said construction work on the King Albert Park station has to move on to meet the needs of other commuters waiting to use the Bukit Panjang-Bugis Downtown Line 2.
