The LTA said that the station will be the northern-most on the Thomson Line.
The 30 km Thomson Line, which is set to be completed by 2018, will extend from Woodlands in the north through the central business district (CBD) to Marina Bay.
In addition, the LTA revealed that the depot for the line will be in Mandai, beside a portion of the Seletar Expressway, and will offer maintenance and stabling facilities for Thomson Line trains.
The site for the depot was released yesterday after extensive site surveys and engineering studies. The government will purchase a 40 ha farm to facilitate the construction of the depot.
When completed, the depot can hold up to 90 trains and will be the biggest in Singapore.
“The construction of the Thomson Line is part of plans to develop a comprehensive rail network system to meet future travel needs. It will improve rail accessibility along the North-South corridor and improve connectivity to the other lines,” the LTA said.
