As the government is implementing tough new regulations, thousands of property agents in Singapore are expected to bail out of the industry over the next 17 months.
The new rules will impose examinations and a basic educational standard on property agents.
Currently, there are no such requirements or mandatory examinations to become a property agent.
Though the new rules allow those property agents who do not meet the educational requirements to take an industry exam to earn qualifications, the immediate affect will be an exodus from the real estate industry, according to experts.
Experts estimate a drop of 25 percent to 30 percent in the number of property agents by the end of 2011.

it's taking so long to weed out black sheep? the government really dragging its heels for some half-hearted measure to clean up the industry.
Wow ... sounds good !! May help filter out the extremely frivolous ones.
This is good news and to ensure high standards of professionalism for real estate agents.Hopefully it will add value to the level of service provided for buyers or sellers.
A REALLY GOOD NEWS!!!!!!
This will greatly help remove the bad worms that tarnish the professional agents in the industry
I'd say some of them have been literally spoiling the image of our Nation among foreigners and expats. The rule should come into force immediately to prevent further damage.
GREAT ! Hope it works ..... Waited too long....10 yrs to hear something worthy. Hope the filtering is done earlier than 17 long mths & with some QC as well!!!!
I tink the deadline for the agents a compulsory to take the exams n education by end of 2011 seem so long .shld take by end of 2010.coz if not those agents are not professional and cheating
Yes... Good News... Cause those Old Iimer and They think they are the GTA Agent have to look into their Professionalism too... We are in the Extremeness Trade... We give services and patient to the clients...
The best news, in keeping with regulation and credibility in Singapore. My experience with these agents has not been comfortable, as unscruplus landlords have taken liberties as well.
