Nominations have already begun for the Good Neighbour Award 2010, which aims to recognise HDB residents with good neighbourly behaviour.

The first Good Neighbour Award was launched last year to recognise those who contributed to a better neighbourhood through acts of consideration and kindness. It earned 530 nominations, with 217 residents selected as constituency recipients and five outstanding residents chosen as national award recipients.

Organised by HDB and the People’s Association (PA), with the support of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM), the 2010 Good Neighbour Award introduces several new features.

A new “Student Category” was added to instill good neighbourly and social behaviour among the young. Residents can nominate primary and secondary school students who have been showing gracious neighbourly acts.

Residents can also nominate their neighbours living in the same constituency with the expansion of “neighbour boundary", while former recipients can also be re-nominated, though they cannot be considered for the national level awards.

In conjunction with the award, an art competition will be held for primary school students. The competition is aimed at generating greater awareness of good social behaviour, better understanding of students’ perspective of a cohesive and active community, and fostering stronger bonds through the use of art.

Nominations for the award will end on September 30.

HDB succeeds in promoting good neighbourliness as it is a vital part of gracious living. With this award, outstanding residents will be recognised for their little good deeds and they will become a role model to others.
