About 20,258 flat owners, who have sublet their flats, have registered with HDB as of end-April.

New subletting agreements have to be logged with HDB within seven days under new rules.

Flat owners should also inform HDB about the changes to the tenant’s particulars, as well as renewal or termination of contracts.

However, seeking prior approval for subletting rooms is not needed.

Those who rented out rooms before February have until 31 July 2010 to register, while those who do not register may be fined up to $3,000 or have their flats taken back.
