MPs in Pasir Ris constituency have received a petition from around 118 residents, who are protesting against the decision by HDB to build 220 units of rental flats at a vacant lot between Blocks 475 and 476 along Pasir Ris Drive 6.The notice of the construction, pasted on notice boards had shocked the residents, with most of them expressing their disagreement.
Mr. Lim, 41, is worried that the tenants residing in the flats may cause some social problems in the community. Another resident said that foreign workers who will build the flats may affect public safety and order within the vicinity.
“HDB should seek our opinions first and not just paste the notice besides the lift to settle the matter,” one lady said.
According to a HDB spokesperson, the construction of rental flats is “in line” with the “development plan” of the nation to increase their supply.
Pasir Ris residents, however, are in doubt if their petition against HDB’s plan will be considered, given that almost all the land in Singapore is owned by the state including the HDB flats with a lease period of 99 years.

East Coast Tanjong Rhu area also has large plot of vacant land available, why not consider that area also for construction of rental flats? This is not a long term solution, can't imagine how it will end up like!
