A new rooftop gym has opened on the top floor of a three-storey car park in Bedok, giving residents the chance to keep their bodies fit near their homes.

Gym @ Bedok Reservoir, a 2,000 sq ft gymnasium in Bedok Reservoir Road, is the first rooftop gym to be built in an HDB estate. It offers residents alternative watersports facilities and a jogging track at the nearby Bedok Reservoir Park.

“People will assess you on the basis of your performance and your sincerity over a period of many years. It's not what you do in the period just before the General Elections (GE),” said Mr. George Yeo, member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC, marking the fulfilment of a promise he made to the residents at the general election.

“The important thing is to look after your residents. Don't do it for the GE, but do it because it's good for them,” he said.

The new gym aims to promote healthy living and a stronger identity for residents in Bedok Reservoir. It was built at a cost of $240,000, with the money coming from a fund-raising dinner held in April, which raised approximately S$300,000 from corporations, foundations and religious groups.
