Civil servant Simon Lim tells Shuli Sudderuddin about his bar by the window and how his minimalist decor theme creates a spacious home that is also easy to clean.

Mr Simon Lim, 32

  • Civil servant

  • Lives in a 90 sq m four-room HDB flat in Queenstown

  • Lives with his wife, Shuk Fong, 26, a dealer in a broker firm

    I love my home because...

We love the high ceiling. It makes the flat look more spacious and allows for better ventilation.

Many people have commented that my home does not feel like an HDB flat because of the high ceiling.

    My decor theme is...

Minimalist. We wanted the apartment to look as simple as possible with minimum furniture so as to make it look more spacious. This is to also minimise cleaning since my wife and I are working.

    My favourite corner is...

The bar area. We enjoy having a drink there at the weekend. You can look out of the window and get a glimpse of the whole estate. It is a great spot for relaxing.

    I'm most proud of...

The master bedroom. We like the smart use of furniture to create privacy. The interior designer placed our wardrobe in front of the window. It acts as a screen so that no one can look into the bedroom. This is important since we live on the ground floor.

    Will I sell it?

    Not in the near future.
