I APPLAUD the move to regulate entrants into the property agency business, but shouldn't there also be a minimum academic qualification requirement for agents to even take the regulatory examinations?

I do not think that an O-level qualification is sufficient for entry into an industry that deals with millions of dollars of clients' assets. I would liken the estate agency business to banking, where only those holding diplomas or degrees, and armed with professional qualifications, are deemed sufficiently qualified to advise clients on structured products and investments.

The same goes for the insurance and stockbroking industries.

I feel that in order to make the property industry more credible, advanced academic qualifications, such as A-levels, diplomas or even higher, are needed.
