I REFER to yesterday's letter, "HDB shop corridor area cannot be sublet".
While the HDB has stated unequivocally that the corridor area or Outdoor Display Area (ODA) belongs to HDB and shop operators cannot sublet it to third parties, there are still unanswered questions such as:
- Who will recover the unjust gains from the Marine Parade shop operators who sublet illegally the ODA for $1,500 a month? Shouldn't HDB recover the money from them since the corridor space belongs to it?
- Whose job is it to police and enforce the no-subletting rule: the town council's or HDB's?
- What deterrent measures will be instituted to ensure that shop operators do not flout the rule with impunity?
