CEILING lights in HDB blocks of one-room rental flats, such as those in Jalan Bukit Merah (an example is Block 106), are yellow incandescent bulbs. During the day along the central common corridors, two bulbs are switched off for every one switched on, perhaps to save electricity.

Many residents are elderly and this dim lighting, especially on a rainy day, puts them at risk of falls.

The elderly and partially visually impaired need more light and suitable lighting, such as daylight lamps.

I hope the HDB will consult professionals who are well versed in gerontology and hence able to advise on appropriate environmental devices such as lights.
