PEDESTRIAN traffic to Wisma Atria's basement has more than doubled from a year ago following the re-opening of the link to Orchard MRT station, said YTL Pacific Star, manager of Starhill Global Reit.

The link, which re- opened last Wednesday, was used by an average of 700,000 people a month when it was closed in October 2006 for major construction works.

'We have been working closely with business partners and the authorities these past two years and are heartened by the timely re-opening of the link, which coincides with the start of the Great Singapore Sale (GSS),' said Franklin Heng, chief executive officer of YTL Pacific Star.

'We are very pleased with the increase in traffic to Wisma Atria over the past few days and anticipate shopper foot-fall will increase further when the escalators leading from the Orchard MRT station to street level are commissioned,' he said.

'We have also created a new side entrance at Wisma Atria Level 2, so the emerging MRT traffic can have another option to walk down Orchard Road through Wisma Atria and Ngee Ann City in air-conditioned comfort.'

To celebrate the re-opening of the link, on June 17, Wisma Atria will unveil an entrance portal that features dynamic LED panels, together with promotions and offers to give shoppers more 'bang for their buck' during the GSS.

The new portal, with its dancing lights, will heighten the visibility of the link entrance to Wisma Atria for people emerging from Orchard MRT's turnstiles.

Starhill Global Reit owns a 74.23 per cent strata title interest in Wisma Atria and a 27.23 per cent strata title interest in Ngee Ann City.
