NATIONAL Development Minister Mah Bow Tan and Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education Grace Fu are visiting the Chinese city of Tianjin from yesterday until tomorrow.
With China's Housing and Urban-Rural Development Minister Jiang Weixin, they will review progress on the Tianjin Eco- city at the fourth meeting of the Sino-Singapore joint working committee on the project.
The committee will discuss work for the year ahead and witness the signing of memorandums of understanding on projects in the eco-city.
Mr Mah and Ms Fu are accompanied by Singapore officials from the various ministries and agencies involved in the eco-city project.
In addition, International Enterprise Singapore has organised a business mission alongside the trip, comprising 65 representatives of 40 Singapore-based companies in different industries.
After the eco-city meeting, Mr Mah will co-chair the second Singapore-Tianjin Economic and Trade Council meeting with Tianjin Mayor Huang Xingguo tomorrow. They will discuss progress and explore new areas of economic collaboration.
Trade between Singapore and Tianjin totalled US$430 million in the first three months of 2009. Trade and investment flows are expected to grow.
