I AM a resident of Buangkok Link. For several months now, I have had to tolerate construction dust and noise from early morning to late evening, seven days a week. But I can no longer put up with the lack of consideration and respect the HDB contractor has shown to residents here.

At 12.30am last Friday, I could still hear construction noise in the background, even with my windows shut. I had made three calls to the contractor since 9.30pm on Thursday, and I was promised that the din would stop soon but nothing changed even after three hours.

I can understand that contractors need to do their jobs quickly, but must it be at the expense of residents? We deserve our sleep and quiet weekends. With the dust and noise, we have to keep our windows shut, even on a hot day.

A lot of residents here are young parents with young children. The children have difficulty sleeping with all this noise. I know, because mine does.

I would like to know what guidelines the HDB gives contractors during construction. Does it take action to ensure that inconvenience to residents is kept to a minimum?
