WE REFER to the Online Forum letter by Ms Annie Chng, 'Lift breaking down frequently' (March 2).

We apologise for the inconvenience caused when the lift breaks down. On most occasions, the lift door could not open and close properly because of foreign matter - for example, debris, pieces of rubbish - found in the door sill. We have told the contractor to step up housekeeping to prevent such lift breakdowns. The malfunction on Feb 11 was due to a cut-off of the switch room power supply, which was restored shortly afterwards.

Tampines Town Council has also contacted Ms Chng to apologise for her unpleasant encounter with the property officer, and will continue to improve service delivery.

HDB and the town council will continue to monitor the situation, and ensure the lift functions properly at all times.
