DIY Spa Treatments

Spa treatments aren’t just for those who have money to pamper themselves. Many of the treatments you can get at a spa are actually full of benefits to promote health and healing. Just because you can’t afford to go to the spa doesn’t mean you have to miss out on these healthy treatments. Below, you will find great spa treatments you can do at home and that will cost you very little money. From head to toe, these recipes and suggestions will have you feeling and looking great.

Facial Treatment:

 - Sunflower scrub

Your face is usually the first thing other people notice about you. Use these facial treatments to make sure your skin is healthy and glowing.

Sunflower seeds, rich in vitamin E oil, make an excellent facial scrub. This recipe can be used to cleanse your skin, leaving your face incredibly soft and smooth. You may also use it for an all-over, full-body treatment.

In a food processor or coffee grinder, process the raw seeds until you have a fine powder that resembles coarse sugar. Pour into a clean container with a tight-fitting lid. Mix 1 tablespoon of the ground sunflower seeds with a few teaspoons of water to create a smooth paste. You can do this in the palm of your hand or in a ceramic bowl. Massage the mixture into your face and neck, and rinse well with warm water followed by cold water. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel.

 - Avocado

Avocado is a great moisturiser for skin. If you want a doubly healthy moisturiser, add a little almond oil to your mashed-up avocado for a luxurious facial treatment.

Hair Therapy:

Cold air, a few laps in a chlorine-filled pool or moisture-stripping shampoos can dry and dull your hair. To combat the damage, use rosemary, which is superb for putting the lustre and life back into your hair. The fragrant herb offers other beauty perks: a strong tea made from fresh rosemary leaves can be used as a darkening hair rinse and may even help tone down greys—it takes a few applications to see results, however. To add shine, body, and moisture to your hair, try this conditioner recipe.

        Rosemary Hair Repair

- 2 tablespoons avocado oil
- 1 tablespoon castor oil
- 2 teaspoons rosemary tea, brewed from fresh rosemary leaves
- 2 eggs

Mix all the ingredients together. Massage into damp hair and let it sit for twenty minutes. Then shampoo and rinse.

Beautiful Hands and Pampered Feet:

 - Lemon and sugar

Dip lemon slices in sugar and rub on any rough skin on your feet for a great foot scrub.

 - Hot Paraffin Dip

Do you enjoy those paraffin dips that you receive at the spa for your hands and feet? Well, you can enjoy it at home as well and have incredibly soft hands and feet.

Take 1-2 bricks of paraffin wax, if you want flavour or aroma, add a half dozen drops of your favourite flavour of oil. Put the wax in your crock pot on low heat and melt it. You don't want to use a higher setting because you don't want to get burned. When the wax is melted, add your aroma oil, pour the wax in to a pan or bucket, and check to make sure that it's not too hot.

Dip a hand or foot in until it is completely covered, take it out and let the wax set. It usually takes 5-10 minutes. Peel the wax once it's set, but don't toss it, you can reuse it!

Body Care:

 - Milk bath

Pour powdered milk into your warm bath for a moisturising soak that will leave your skin feeling luxurious.

 - Salt scrub

This exfoliating scrub for your body uses only table salt and oil. Use the grape seed oil recommended for the added bonus of helping to heal stretch marks.
