Ant Remedies
Ants in our house are not only frustrating but also difficult to
control. However, here are some simple ant remedies that are most
commonly present at our homes at all times.
Natural Ant Remedies
Ants come into our homes looking for food and shelter. From human food to those of our pets, these insects seem to partake any meal. Although their role in nature is important (they help in nutrient cycling and provide food for other creatures like woodpeckers and bears), they are absolutely unwanted guests in our homes. Here are some solutions for those who want to know how to get rid of ants.
Chalk or Baby Powder: Chalk or baby powder work effectively as an easy home remedy to kill ants. Talcum powder which is present in both chalk and baby powder repels ants. Sprinkle either of these two around the area or draw a line across the room that they seem to regularly invade.
Lemon Juice: This is one of the easiest and yet effective natural remedies for ants. Just squeeze some fresh lemon across the cracks and holes from where ants seem to come out. Alternatively, you could also draw a line across the windowsill or door through which they enter your home.
Vinegar: Vinegar is a popular choice for gardeners who want to keep their plant beds free of weeds. Another use of this liquid is that it is one of the good ant control remedies. Just spray some vinegar through a bottle with a narrow nozzle and within a few minutes, you would find that area free of ants. Ants are repelled by the scent of vinegar and this liquid also removes any trace of their scent trails that they use to move around.
Coffee Grounds: Sprinkle used coffee grounds over the area you
want to be ant free. Ants do not like the scent of coffee grounds and
stay away from the area where they are sprinkled. What's even better
with coffee grounds is that it is one of the ant remedies that even
keeps cats out of one's home.
Boiling Water: Yes, it's that simple. Pour some boiling water over the area in the house that is infested by ants. This kills the ants and also makes the area free of their scent that reduces the probability of the surviving ants returning to the spot. If these ants are invading your garden, just pour a kettle of boiling water over the ant hills to get rid of these pesky insects.
Spices : The kitchen is one of the most common places in the house that has ant activity and ironically, the solution to this problem is also right there! Just grab some spices, be it garlic, cloves, cinnamon, black pepper or cayenne leaves whichever you can lay your hands on in the kitchen cabinet. Just place them around the area of ant activity and see those creatures vanish from your home.
Salt: Salt seems to act as a borderline for ants which they do not cross. Make a smooth line of salt across the threshold of your house and protect your abode from being invaded by these pesky creatures.
Cucumber or Citrus Peels: Next time you have a cucumber or citrus fruits, do not throw away the peels. Here is a better use to put them to. Leave the peels in the area of the house where ants are present. These peels inhibit the growth of certain types of fungus that the ants feed on. So with these peels around, ants have one less reason to invade your house.
These are just a few of the ant remedies that are not only easy but also, non toxic. Hence, they are a good option to control ants at home.
