Storage Solutions
In our article on spring-cleaning, we touched on the subject of de-cluttering and getting rid of all unwanted items. Here, we have devised some more solutions that you can apply to each room whilst you play around with space.
Underneath it all
Do you chuck things underneath your bed and have difficulty getting it out? If that is so, then you may want to check out IKEA's Engan bed storage box at just $99. You simply pull it out from underneath the bed, store your things inside and slide the box right back in. There are two compartments that provides generous storage space. Alternatively if you are looking to purchase an entirely new bed, check out Hemnes day-bed frame. It comes with 3 pull-drawers beneath the bed and costs $799.
Sit and sleep
To save even more space in the bedroom, opt for a sofa bed. A range of sofa beds are available at IKEA from about $130 to above $1000. The ones we liked are the Manstad corner sofa-bed with storage (its a bed, a sofa and a drawer!), and the Beddinge sofa-bed. The latter costs $150 for the frame and you get to choose from four different mattresses and a variety of covers to create a combination that suits you.
Buried in books
If your living room looks like a 100-year old library, then invest in a book shelf. Not only does it help to store your books nicely, it can act as a room divider. This is especially useful if your living room and dining room are linked together. Check out a variety of bookshelves from as little as $120 at IKEA. They come in many colours including red which ties in with the Chinese New Year theme. Alternatively, visit vHive for book shelves with a more classic look. It is a little more pricey though.
In addition, we found some cool deals on sideboards which are sure to make a great conversational piece. For example, check out Court's 6-compartment Baton Buffet sideboard at $469. Its distinguished gray sand-grained texture makes this piece stand out in the living room. If that is a little too steep, then head down to IKEA for more contemporary pieces at less than half the price.
Coffee or tea?
What's better than a good “cuppa”? Having a great read to go along. We found some great deals for coffee tables with storage compartments to store magazines and newspapers. IKEA's $249 Imfor modern contemporary square table has an open compartment so you do not have to open and close drawers.
Alternatively, if you want tables with drawers, Courts may just have the right deal with its contemporary $329 Brecon table with glass top. If you are looking for something below $100, then vHive's Linear coffee table made of Euro oak may be just the one for you.
Not forgetting the bathroom
Even the bathroom can utilise space-saving furniture. Again, IKEA has got a range of these types of furniture. From the simplistic Flaren mirror cabinet to the more chic GO mirror cabinet. These are ideal for storing your facial or shaving creams and medications. There is also the Bursjon stool with storage, an ingenious way to store perhaps two days worth of laundry.
So there you have it, some of the space-saving solutions that we have got for you. With these solutions, even a studio apartment or the most ill-kept home can look more tidy and spacious. The next time you shop for furniture, be sure to keep these tips in mind to decorate your home the smarter way.
